Less Mess Cooking with Little Chefs

When you're two, the best part of baking with mom is pouring those spoonfuls of messy ingredients into the bowl.  At least that's how it's been for my little bakers and chefs.  Unfortunately, the contents of that spoon too often end up on the counter, on the floor, on the kid (We've even had it on the dog.)...but not in the bowl.

I had an "aha" moment this week, when my hubby left out two of those freebie medicine spoons with the measurements on the handle.  The lone hold-out against the bug the other five of us caught earlier this week, he nursed everyone back to health.  And sparked an idea:

Fill your medicine spoon with the needed ingredients and let your little helper dump away.  They will have to very intentionally tilt the spoon down into the bowl to get the ingredients out.  That spoon has 1 teaspoon of baking soda in it, and it didn't come out until the spoon was just about vertical.

Use one spoon for dry ingredients and one for wet ingredients.  Bye, bye, mess!
